Event Calendar

Down Syndrome Alliance of the Midlands and Gotta Be Me are partnering with BLUEBARN Theatre to create a pre-show event entitled MANY VOICES, ONE MESSAGE – IMAGINING ACCESS. On Sunday, October 4, at 1:00pm this combined choir will sing two songs of joy as resistance prior to the mainstage performance entitled RISE! Songs of Resilience and Resistance. This production will take place on the BLUEBARN outdoor patio (1106 S. 10th Street). 

The choir will rehearse on the Mondays of September 21 and 28 from 7 - 8pm at the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center on the UNO Campus (6400 S University Dr Rd N). On September 28, guitarist and musical arranger for Rise!, Jeanne Cahill, will join the choir to share more about the show and to rehearse with the choir.

Through spirituals of strength to the anthems of the suffragettes and unions, gay and civil rights movements, Music has long rung out with passion to express the deepest of human needs -for freedom, dignity, hope and BELONGING. From the fields of bondage to movements for justice, these songs have carried the weight of the sorrow and the fire of resistance. This outdoor evening of song honors that legacy-with voices raised in resilience and the unyielding rhythm of freedom.
