Speech-Language Pathology Students / Therapist Presentation - Communication Disorders in Children with Down Syndrome

This is presentation is reserved for Speech-Language Pathology therapists and students. Parents and educators need to register for the evening presentation from 7-9 PM.

The Down Syndrome Education Series (DSES) is a monthly educational seminar for families of children with Down syndrome, designed to connect parents with information that will positively impact the education and well-being of their child.

*Please note that this presentation is being held at the Community Engagement Center, located on UNO's Dodge Street campus. See the map below for directions and help with parking. There is reserved parking in the gated LOT E.*

Title - Communication Disorders in Children with Down Syndrome
The speaker will discuss common strengths and needs related to communication and offer ideas to support behavior in treatment.

Speaker - Jennifer Bekins, MS, CCC-SLP
Jennifer Bekins is the coordinator for speech-language pathology in the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and lead speech-language pathologist with the nationally recognized Jane and Richard Thomas Center for Down Syndrome at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Jennifer has practiced since 2001 upon graduating from Loyola University Maryland. Her focus in children with Down syndrome includes feeding disorders, parent-child interaction, and communication skills for life success. Jennifer blogs about her experiences as an SLP and sibling to a sister and two brothers with Down syndrome at Talk-DS.org.
