Parent DSES - The IEP Toolkit

The IEP Toolkit -
The session will focus on recognizing and capitalizing upon the learning profile of children with Down syndrome, using parental knowledge to positively and proactively prepare for the IEP process, and how to incorporate academic and behavioral concerns into a strong and functional IEP. Strategies will also be provided concerning how to prevent problematic behaviors from occurring and how to create positive (and useful) behavior plans and behavior goals.

Speaker Bio-
Gretchen Carroll, M.A. is the Clinical Special Educator and School Liaison for the Jane and Richard Thomas Center for Down Syndrome and the Neurodevelopmental Education Clinic at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. She earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Learning Disabilities from Northwestern University and has worked as a clinical special educator, learning specialist, and school consultant for over twenty five years. Gretchen has worked with hundreds of students and schools to improve academic and behavioral outcomes for children with Down syndrome. She speaks locally and nationally with expertise in the areas of IEP preparation, learning strategies, inclusion, and behavior.

The Down Syndrome Education Series (DSES) is a monthly educational seminar for families of children with Down syndrome, designed to connect parents with information that will positively impact the education and well-being of their child.
