Sibshops is not group therapy although their effe ct may be therapeutic for some children.\n\nWho Participates in Sibshops? \nSibshops is designed for children ages\, 6 – 13 who have a brother or si ster with disabilities. Sibshops is facilitated by a Trained Adult Sibling Facilitator.\n\nWhy do Siblings Need A Program Such as Sibshops?\nSibling s of children with disabilities want to understand what’s going on with th eir brother or sister and the implications. They need information for reas surance\, to answer their own questions and questions posed by others\, an d to plan for their future. And\, unless their brother or sister has a ter minal condition\, the need will be lifelong and the topics ever-changing. \n\nWhat are the Goals of the Program?\nParticipants get to meet other sib lings in a relaxed recreational setting\, where they can discuss their per sonal joys and concerns with other siblings who understand. They will lear n how to handle situations commonly experienced by siblings and the implic ations of their brother’s or sister’s special needs.
