 or Educators \nIn this presentation\, Amy Allison will discuss the unique 
 learning styles of individuals with Down syndrome along with specific trai
 ts that may help you improve the learning environment and interaction with
  individuals with Down syndrome in your community.  This presentation will
  demonstrate how your school and district can maximize your interactions\,
  instruction and understanding of students so that everyone succeeds.  By 
 having an overall better understanding of Down syndrome\, you will be able
  to help your students reach their full potential and help others in your 
 school / classroom benefit from this experience.  \n\nDS 101 for Educators
  will cover the following topics: \n· Common medical issues related to Dow
 n syndrome\n· Communication issues and strategies for success\n· How to im
 prove social skills \n· Processing time and memory issues\n· Benefits of i
 nclusive education\n· Environmental issues which can hamper success\n· Way
 s to adapt the curriculum\n· Peer presentations to increase friendships\n·
  Behavior intervention strategies\n· Preferred teaching methods\n \nDon’t 
 miss this chance to gain a better understanding of how the diagnosis of Do
 wn syndrome affects learning and how you can best support your student. Ti
 me will be allotted to answer attendee questions. \n\nBio - Amy Allison cu
 rrently serves as the Chief Operating Officer of the Down Syndrome Guild o
 f Greater Kansas City (DSG). DSG\, founded in 1984 by a group of dedicated
  parents of children with Down syndrome\, provides programs and services t
 o improve the quality of life for individuals with Down syndrome and their
  families. DSG serves over 800 families caring for a loved one with Down s
 yndrome in the greater Kansas City area on both sides of the state line.\n
 \nIn addition to her work with DSG\, Amy Allison served as a member of the
  Board of Directors for Down Syndrome Affiliates In Action (DSAIA). In 200
 9\, Amy’s leadership and expertise helped DSAIA organize a conference in W
 ashington DC where more than 300 Down syndrome advocates from 35 states ga
 thered at the U.S. capitol to lobby Capitol Hill. The purpose of this effo
 rt was to seek federal funds to help spread accurate information about pre
 natally diagnosed disabilities and to raise additional support for Down sy
 ndrome related causes.\n\nAmy received a double bachelor’s degree in psych
 ology and sociology from Brigham Young University.\n\n\n*Registration clos
