 ***\n\nThe Down Syndrome Education Series (DSES) is a monthly educational 
 seminar for families of children with Down syndrome\, designed to connect 
 parents with information that will positively impact the education and wel
 l-being of their child.\n\nSpeaker - Dr. Terry Katz\nTopic - Understanding
  Sleep Issues and Exploring Solutions\n\nThis talk is designed for parents
  and providers who want to learn more about sleep\, why children with spec
 ial needs may have difficulty sleeping\, and what they can do to help ever
 yone in the family sleep better.  The session will be informative and prac
 tical and will provide families with ideas that they can use at home.\nLea
 rning Objectives:\n•	Review information about the basics of sleep\n•	Discuss
  reasons why children with special needs have difficulty with sleep\n•	Iden
 tify treatment strategies that will help children (and their families!) sl
 eep better\n\nBio - Dr. Terry Katz is a licensed psychologist and Senior I
 nstructor with Distinction in Developmental Pediatrics at the University o
 f Colorado School of Medicine.  She has specialized in the assessment and 
 treatment of children with neurodevelopmental disorders for over 25 years.
  She co-founded and co-leads a sleep behavior clinic for children with spe
 cial needs at Children’s Hospital Colorado and is the co-author of a paren
 ting book on sleep and autism.  Dr. Katz provides education and consultati
 on on sleep for children and adults throughout the country. She has develo
 ped webinars\, toolkits\, and education manuals to help improve sleep in i
 ndividuals with special needs.  Dr. Katz also conducts research on sleep a
 nd autism and co-led the Autism Speaks/Autism Treatment Network sleep comm
 ittee from 2012 to 2014.  \n\n***Childcare is not provided.  With the exce
