 Building Bridges to Success  - Creating a Transition Portfolio\n\nTransiti
 on is a process of movement or change from one environment to another.  Th
 is movement or change in programs or services brings new opportunities and
  challenges for staff\, families\, and children.  Successful transitions i
 n the life of a child with disabilities are critical. \n\nResearch support
 s some key practices and strategies for the transition process that focuse
 s on families (e.g.\, the need for information and support throughout the 
 process)\, teachers (e.g.\, the need for advance information about the chi
 ld)\, and communities (e.g.\, need for an interagency team to support tran
 sition planning across agencies.\n\nThis presentation will include informa
 tion that will:\n•	Examine current research on transitions\n•	Explore practi
 ces that promote successful transitions\n•	Identify tools and strategies to
  be used to promote successful transitions\n\n\nSpeaker Bio - \nDr. Marily
 n Tolbert\, Director and Jean W. Roach Chair of Laboratory Schools at Texa
 s Christian University.  Marilyn is the director of two laboratory schools
  on the campus of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth\, Texas – Starp
 oint School and KinderFrogs School.  Starpoint School is a private school 
 for children ages 6 to eleven diagnosed with learning differences.  Kinder
 Frogs School is an educational program serving children ages 18 months to 
 6 years of age with Down syndrome and other developmental delays.  KinderF
 rogs also serves a small number of typically developing children\n\nPrior 
 to KinderFrogs School\, she was the Education Director for River Legacy Li
 ving Science Center and the PreSchool Director for River Legacy Nature Sch
 ool.  She was a principal and kindergarten/first grade teacher in public s
 chools for six years.  Prior to her educational experience\, she worked in
  business for 20 years before embarking on her  educational career.  \n\nM
 arilyn holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Tex
 as Christian University\, a Masters of Science degree in Administration fr
 om TCU\, and an Educational Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership fro
 m TCU.\n\nShe serves on the board of Kauffman Leadership Academy\, the boa
 rd of the Green Oaks School\, is past president of the Down Syndrome Partn
 ership of Tarrant County and is President of the Board of the National Dow
 n Syndrome Congress.\n\nWhen she is not advocating for and on behalf of ch
 ildren and their families\, she loves to travel\, read\, and spend time wi
 th family and friends.  \n \nThe Down Syndrome Education Series (DSES) is 
 a monthly educational seminar for families of children with Down syndrome\
 , designed to connect parents with information that will positively impact
  the education and well-being of their child.\n\n***Childcare is not provi
