 \n\nReading and Math matter!  Learn strategies and techniques for teaching
  reading and math concepts to children with Down syndrome.  This session w
 ill focus on the principles of phonemic awareness\, sight word recognition
  and phonics in a way that will engage students.  In addition\, this sessi
 on discusses basic math concepts and ways to integrate math into daily act
 ivities.\n\nSpeaker Bio - \nDr. Marilyn Tolbert\, Director and Jean W. Roa
 ch Chair of Laboratory Schools at Texas Christian University.  Marilyn is 
 the director of two laboratory schools on the campus of Texas Christian Un
 iversity in Fort Worth\, Texas – Starpoint School and KinderFrogs School. 
  Starpoint School is a private school for children ages 6 to eleven diagno
 sed with learning differences.  KinderFrogs School is an educational progr
 am serving children ages 18 months to 6 years of age with Down syndrome an
 d other developmental delays.  KinderFrogs also serves a small number of t
 ypically developing children\n\nPrior to KinderFrogs School\, she was the 
 Education Director for River Legacy Living Science Center and the PreSchoo
 l Director for River Legacy Nature School.  She was a principal and kinder
 garten/first grade teacher in public schools for six years.  Prior to her 
 educational experience\, she worked in business for 20 years before embark
 ing on her  educational career.  \n\nMarilyn holds a Bachelor of Science d
 egree in Elementary Education from Texas Christian University\, a Masters 
 of Science degree in Administration from TCU\, and an Educational Doctorat
 e Degree in Educational Leadership from TCU.\n\nShe serves on the board of
  Kauffman Leadership Academy\, the board of the Green Oaks School\, is pas
 t president of the Down Syndrome Partnership of Tarrant County and is Pres
 ident of the Board of the National Down Syndrome Congress.\n\nWhen she is 
 not advocating for and on behalf of children and their families\, she love
 s to travel\, read\, and spend time with family and friends.  \n \n\nThe D
 own Syndrome Education Series (DSES) is a monthly educational seminar for 
 families of children with Down syndrome\, designed to connect parents with
  information that will positively impact the education and well-being of t
 heir child.\n\n\nChildcare is not provided.  With the exception of infants
 \, we request that you refrain from bringing children to this event.
